About our calling

Every human being is born and called to love. LOVE, however, manifests itself in the lives of people through one and the same Spirit in the most diverse gifts. Through the active living of these “gifts of love” we are all united in the service of God (worship) and our neighbour (love of neighbour). Thus all lovers become one, one body, and thereby living members in the great redemptive work of our Lord Jesus Christ.

One Spirit, many gifts – according to 1 Corinthians 12

There are many different gifts, but it is one and the same Spirit ‘who assigns them to us’. There are many different ministries, but it is one and the same Lord ‘who commissions us with them’. There are many different powers, but it is one and the same God through whom they are all made effective in ‘us’ all. In each one the work of the Spirit is manifested ‘in a different way’, but it is always for the benefit of ‘the whole church’.

One body, many members – according to 1 Corinthians 12

Think of the ‘human’ body as a comparison! It represents a unit consisting of many parts; or looked at the other way round: It is made up of many parts, all of which together form a coherent whole. It is the same with Christ. For all of us – whether Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free – have been baptised with the same Spirit and given to drink from the same fountain, the Spirit of God, and thereby we have all become one body.

Diversity of gifts – according to 1 Corinthians 12

Now all of this also applies to you, for` you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of this body. God has assigned a specific GIFT to everyone in the church.

Jesus looked at him full of love. He said to him, “One thing you lack: go, sell everything you have and give the proceeds to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. And then come and follow me!” – Mark 10:21
